Marble Soda

This is a collaboration with my friend and fellow motion designer, Cora Keene, for our projection class. For this project, we were tasked with developing a piece that could be used for stage graphics. The challenge was to project on four large boards—two thinner and two wider—and to properly use MadMapper to fit our visuals across the different surfaces.

Conceptual Development, Animation, Editing, and Producing

For this projection assignment, Cora and I wanted to collaborate on something fun and enjoyable. While browsing song ideas, we began to do a deep dive into some of our favorite songs from middle school. One of which being “Marble Soda”.

As an upbeat and jumpy piece, we decided to create graphics that could be easily interchangeable depending on what is being played. We utilized imagery of the sound effects heard to give a more interactive approach.

Behind the Scenes
When thinking of imagery, we tried to base our illustrations on the sounds the viewer will hear. Primarily, there was a constant repetition of raindrops, car keys, lemonade, and Pikachu. While thinking of this as a real-life scenario, we also considered copyright issues for Pikachu’s imagery.

So, we created Ponkachu, Pikachu’s overweight cousin. Although his design started out as a joke created from lack of sleep, we decided that this joke is exactly what Shawn Wasabi would want in his concert graphics.
