Wishful Drinkin'

This was a project for my Motion Design Cinematography class, where we were tasked with selecting a song or poem and visually interpreting its meaning through filmed and edited footage.

For "Wishful Drinkin’" by Tessa Violet, I aimed to capture the disorienting, chaotic nature of getting blackout drunk and the emotional turbulence that comes with it—the rapid shifts between euphoria and despair.

To bring this vision to life, I experimented with erratic camera movements, quick cuts, and blurred or distorted visuals to mimic the loss of control and fragmented memories associated with intoxication. Lighting played a key role in reinforcing the mood, with shifts between warm, vibrant hues representing the initial high and darker, more unstable tones illustrating the inevitable crash. The pacing of the edit was intentionally unpredictable, mirroring the song’s emotional push and pull.

This project allowed me to explore how cinematography and editing techniques can be used to immerse the viewer in a specific mindset, translating abstract emotions into a visceral, visual experience.
